Heading out on an early morning hike? Try making this yerba mate energy drink ahead of time. It has the caffeine to wake you up as well as the electrolytes to keep you hydrated while being healthier than store-bought energy drinks.
Yerba Mate Energy Drink
- 4 heaping tsp of yerba mate (roughly two tea bags worth)
- 24oz water
- 1 teabag of a fruity tea, I used raspberry hibiscus
- Juice of ½ lemon
- Sugar or honey, to taste
Bring your water to a boil and remove from heat. Add the mate and fruity tea, let steep for 10 minutes. Pour into water bottle, add lemon and sweetener. Keep in refrigerator for up to three days.
